Leadership & Self-Deception

The "disease" of self-deception (acting in ways contrary to what one knows is right) underlies all leadership problems in today's organizations, according to the premise of this work. However well intentioned they may be, leaders who deceive themselves always end up undermining their own performance. This straightforward book explains how leaders can discover their own self-deceptions and learn how to escape destructive patterns. The authors demonstrate that breaking out of these patterns leads to improved teamwork, commitment, trust, communication, motivation, and leadership.

I wanted to apologize for being a little behind the past couple of months on getting all of you updated as well as the blog. It is my goal to get the next's month book out to you in a couple of weeks.

Johnny today was asking me when it was his turn to pick a book. He said that Chad had picked a religious book, because he taught religion. Shelly had picked a children's fun read because she spends so much time with her children. Will had picked a book about pilot related to his career (obviously) and Spenny had picked a book often used in the business world. Johnny said that when it is his turn he is going to pick a medical book of some sort...so watch out! I guess that means when it is my turn we will all read about Yoga or maybe supermodels. I will have to think about which one describes me best :)

I JUST READ THIS BOOK, AT MOST, 2 MONTHS AGO. How crazy is that? What are the chances? Has anyone read Anatomy of Peace? Its a prequel to Leadership and Self Deception and very good as well. I guess of all the months to have "off" this is a great one with the baby coming and all. Maybe I'll finish The Holy Secret (yet another Jim Farrell book)
Happy Reading everyone. It's a good one :)

I am enjoying the read. It has the same feel as the peace giver. Again I am enjoying insight into my own faults and realizing this is no simple read. Wish me luck getting out of the "Box" love to all. Jenny

So more that half of the month is already over, and we're not quite half way through the book! I love the story line as our good man Tom is a hard working husband and father, who has always tried to succeed. When his new boss Bud introduces him to the concept of self-deception vs leadership, he views the concept as something almost insignificant and simplistic. However, as he applies the concept he is able to see that it provides significant results. I love that it is not just for the work environment, but also for relationships with family, friends, and everyone we come in contact with. We're loving this book! It's a good thing that it is an easy read, or I'd never be able to finish.
Nellie is also very glad to learn of Dr. Semmuelweis and his role in improving the sanitary conditions at hospitals. Bless you doctor!

I finished the book last week and still find myself asking myself before I act or better yet re-act if my thoughts are out of the box actions or in the box actions. I would venture to say it was more focussed on marriage then business though. I guess the point was the principles can be applied to all aspects of our lives. Good book thanks Spenny and Nellie. Love to all
